This course is a one day course and is ideal for people already in or wanting to work in the building and/or demolition industries.

Workers and supervisors must be appropriately trained and hold certification for the Vocational Educational Training (VET) course appropriate to the class of asbestos being removed.

A class B asbestos removal licence only covers work for the removal of:

  • more than ten square metres of non-friable asbestos
  • any asbestos contaminated dust or debris associated with the removal of this non-friable asbestos.

The licence does not authorise the removal of friable asbestos (class A asbestos removal work).

PRE-REQUISITE:  Learners must hold CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry (White Card) competency to be able to do this course. Participants must be able to supply a copy of a Statement of Attainment for CPCCWHS1001 or its predecessor CPCCOHS1001A.
We cannot accept the white card as the evidence of completing the pre-requisite unit.

Non-friable asbestos is bonded asbestos where there is no loose fibres that can become airborne.

It is usually found in cement sheeting, often called fibro, used in many Queensland buildings before 1990.

The sheeting was used for cladding, roofs and fences and can often be found as backing boards in wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

Where class B asbestos removal work is being carried out by more than one person, the licence holder must ensure a supervisor is readily available to the workers carrying out the asbestos removal work.

The course covers:

  • Work instructions and asbestos removal plans
  • PPE and tools used in removal of non-friable asbestos
  • Determining what is/isn’t non-friable asbestos
  • How to safely remove non-friable asbestos
  • Signage and barricade requirements
  • Decontamination procedures
  • Isolation of site
  • Containment of asbestos and safe disposal
  • Regulatory requirements and documentation

Although a licence is not required to remove ten square metres or less of non-friable asbestos material, all asbestos removal work must be carried out properly using safe work procedures. Refer to the WHS Regulation and How to Safely Remove Asbestos Code of Practice 2011 for more information.

Course fee: $300 per person
